What being a local guide means to me

I began recording my experiences in bars and restaurants circa 2014. Then, I was running the most successful food blog in Panama and Central America and could recommend my following to see the places and I had been to and enjoyed. The caveat here is that in my blog I did not rate any place, but that was now a possibility through Google Maps. I then became a local guide and began racking points, gaining credibility and visibility, and this led me to a wider audience. The following in my blog began to grow and it came from my Local Guides experience. I also kept records of my travels (currently at 66/193) and instead of sharing a stale list or Word document I could share a dynamic list on Maps. Furthermore, I founded my own travel agency and Maps has become my “wingperson”: I create lists, routes, recommendations, etc, and improve and impact positively my clients’ customer experience with my agency. I believe it also attracts more users to Maps, who are often shocked by the amount of things they can create with the app/website
