Hi @DeniGu
This year is coming to end soon. Itâs so fast. In South India during November/December based on Full moon we celebrate KARTHEEKA DEEPAM festival followed by MARGHAZI Fasting. KARTHEEKA or KARTHIGAI is Tamil Month. DEEPAM means Lights or Lamps. Today I celebrated the festival in my home and visited Temples.
The above picture is lighting of Traditional Lamps on my home.
I have already written a post regarding MARGHAZI celebrations. Will write a post in detail regarding todayâs festival.
Thanks for sharing this important information about KARTHEEKA DEEPAM festival.
The decorations in the photo looks very attractive
Thanks a lot @TusharSuradkar for your feedback. I feel preveleged.
Pozdrav dragi lokalni vodiÄi!
VaraÅždin/Hrvatska
Hvala vam draga @DeniGu na ovoj lijepoj i zanimljivoj temi.
Prosinac je naj Äarobniji mjesec u godini.
Å to sve slavimo ovdje u Hrvatskoj u prosincu??
6.12. je Dan svetog Nikole.
Sveti Nikola je zaÅĄtitnik djece, pomoraca i mojega grada VaraÅždina.
Djeca oÄiste Äizmice i stave ih u prozor 5.12. uveÄe. 6.12. ujutro u Äizmicama pronaÄu sitne poklonÄiÄe, igraÄke, slatkiÅĄeâĻ Jako zabavno i djeca su presretna
6.12. je Dan grada VaraÅždina i odrÅžavaju se prigodni koncerti, izloÅžbe, kazaliÅĄne predstave, sportski dogaÄaji.
24.12. je Badnjak, tada kitimo borove i ukraÅĄavamo dvoriÅĄte prekrasnim lampicama. Mi pored bora slaÅžemo i jaslice. Meni predivan osjeÄaj
25.12. slavimo katoliÄki BoÅžiÄ.
Meni najljepÅĄi katoliÄki blagdan uz Uskrs.
Pripremamo malo bogatiji stol, mesne delicije, kolaÄe i neizostavnu francusku salatu. Na BoÅžiÄ odemo i u crkvu na misu.
Novu godinu slavimo u noÄi sa 31.12. na 1.1.
Da spomenem joÅĄ jednu zanimljivost u mojem gradu. U VaraÅždinu se svake godine u ponoÄ odrÅžava meÄunarodna novogodiÅĄnja utrka (trÄanje).
- sijeÄnja 2025. godine toÄno u ponoÄ startat Äe 46. novogodiÅĄnja utrka.
TrÄi se ulicama grada.
I to je prvi sportski dogaÄaj u Hrvatskoj u 2025. godini!!

Hi @Praj13 , I really enjoyed your Christmas/Holiday post from Dublin. Iâve always been envious of Christmas celebrations in this region! I wanted to also mention that your post was right in line with @DeniGuâs topic that I moved it here for all Local Guides to see while also sharing their own holiday anecdotes .
Thank you for sharing this information about the KARTHEEKA DEEPAM festival. @Gurukrishnapriya
Thatâs a wonderful initiative, @DeniGu
When I was in Bangladesh, the only celebration in December was for our victory day on Dec 16. New Yearâs eve was also a big thing, but not as much as the Victory Day. After moving to the USA, Christmas is the biggest celebration in December for me.
For the last few years, we place and decorate a Christmas tree at the corner of our living room on the first day of December and it is lit up for the entire month. We try to make some traditional food.
My husband makes some dessert named bourbon balls. All his friends love it and look forward to December just for this. Sadly I cannot consume it despite having a sweet tooth as I do not consume alcohol. But the bourbon balls are the highlights of the month. This year he made some virgin Bourbon Balls for me with heavy cream to substitute with the alcohol and it tasted super delicious. Now I know why his friends love this so much.
I love the fact the our little home gets to enjoy the festivity in such a glorious way. The warmth of the festivity makes the house cosy and warm in the chilly winter.
Wishing you and all my friends on Connect and the Google team a Happy New Year! May the New Year brings more happiness and prosperity to everyone.

Yes I totally agree with youâĻ
In Bangladesh, December is significant for several holidays and celebrations @DeniGu, below few events that really matters to us:
Victory Day (Bijoy Dibosh) - December 16 : This is a national holiday Bangladeshâs victory in the Liberation War of 1971. It marks the day when the Pakistani forces surrendered, leading to Bangladeshâs independence. The day is celebrated with parades, cultural and seminar symposium programs, and tributes to the martyrs.
Christmas (Bara Din) - December 25 : For the Christian community in Bangladesh Christmas is a significant religious holiday. Churches are decorated, and special services are held. It is also recognized as a public holiday. All are celebrated this day very cordially with festive mode.
New Yearâs Eve : The 31st of December in Bangladesh is widely celebrated as New Yearâs Eve, although it is not a public holiday. People across the country, especially in Divisional and district areas like Dhaka Chattogram, Khulna, Sylhet, Rangpur, Barishal, Jessore, Kustia, Cumilla, Feni and many other parts of the country celebrate the end of the year with Parties and Gatherings, Fireworks and Light Shows, Private Celebrations.
@DeniGu
Victory Day is a special day in Bangladesh and is celebrated nationwide. Every year on December 16, the day is celebrated in Bangladesh. In a notification published on January 22, 1972, the day was celebrated as the National Day of Bangladesh and was declared an official holiday.
