Women & Allied Series: Meet Cecilia, a Passionate Local Guide from Argentina! 🌍✨

Hello, Local Guides! :waving_hand:

Continuing our Women & Allied Series, today we’re excited to introduce Cecilia, a passionate Level 10 Local Guide from Argentina.

Cecilia has been making an impact by contributing to Google Maps, sharing her experiences, and supporting her community in meaningful ways. Let’s get to know her! Here is a candid Rendezvous with @Cecilita !

:rocket: Can you tell us a little about yourself and your journey as a Local Guide?

[Cecilia]: Nine years ago, I discovered the Local Guides program, and I knew it was the perfect fit for me. I fully immersed myself in it, exploring hidden gems, sharing recommendations, and, over time, helping grow the Local Guides community in Argentina. Organizing meet-ups became one of my greatest passions, and as a Connect Moderator for the past four years, I’ve seen firsthand how a community can thrive when there’s dedication and teamwork. All the while, my son grew up listening to me talk about maps, reviews, and incredible places. He often joined me at events and meet-ups, learning along the way about the value of sharing knowledge and helping others. But my journey hasn’t been without challenges. For over 27 years, I worked in large-scale application implementations for major companies. My role required frequent travel, and while it was an exciting professional challenge, leaving my son behind was always the hardest part. After years of airports and goodbyes, I made a big decision—I changed jobs to one that allowed me to keep growing professionally without having to be away. Today, as a Cloud Integrations Architect, I continue building solutions, but with the peace of mind of being present for my family. And because I love new challenges, I recently started a furniture business with my brother—a project born from a love of craftsmanship and handmade creations. It’s an exciting new journey that complements everything else I do without giving up my other passions. My story proves that reinvention is always possible. That work, family, and passion can coexist when you have the determination to make it happen. And that every connection—whether digital, personal, or through a new project—has the power to transform lives.

:light_bulb: What inspires you to be a Local Guide?

[Cecilia]: If there’s one thing that has always driven me, it’s the passion for connecting—connecting people, places, and ideas. Being a Local Guide is more than just sharing reviews and photos—it’s about making connections and friends and helping others discover the world around them. I’ve always believed that information has the power to transform experiences, whether it’s helping a small business get noticed, guiding a traveler to a hidden gem, or making places more accessible for everyone. What truly inspires me is the impact we can create as a community. Over the years, I’ve organized countless meet-ups, worked to grow the Local Guides community in Argentina, and witnessed firsthand how our contributions help people every day. Knowing that my insights can make a difference for someone else keeps me motivated to keep sharing and exploring.

:globe_showing_europe_africa: What’s your favorite feature of Google Maps?

[Cecilia]: The feature I love the most is contributing reviews and photos. A well-written review or a detailed photo can provide valuable insights for others, whether they’re looking for a great café, an accessible entrance, or the best place to stay. I also enjoy adding missing places and editing information, ensuring that businesses and landmarks are accurately represented so that people can find exactly what they need.

:speech_balloon: What message would you give to other Women Local Guides or anyone considering joining our Local Guides program ?

[Cecilia]: Your voice, your perspective, and your experiences matter. Whether you’re sharing a review, adding a missing place, or capturing the beauty of your city, every contribution helps someone else navigate the world a little easier. As women, we shape communities, support businesses, and create safe, inclusive spaces. Let’s continue to explore, share, and inspire—because the world needs more of our stories on the maps!

Great! @Globe_trotter_Ish, during the anniversary celebration period, you were the first to announce a series dedicated to women, making you a pioneer in 2025. @Cecilita’s story will undoubtedly inspire others to join Local Guides Community. I would also love to know from both you and Cecilita how you discovered Connect and how long after joining the Local Guides program you became aware of and joined Connect.

Hi @K.K.Sharma!!
Thank you for your kind words!

I discovered Connect in 2018, about two years after my start as Local Guide, when I received an email from Google inviting me to participate to the Connect live 2018 event.

I realized then, that there was a community of Local Guides from all over the world and I thought it was a great opportunity to learn about different cultures.
I was a little scared at the beginning because I didn’t know anyone here, so I didn’t participate into the event that year, but I started to read posts more often and a year after, when I was invited again, I decided to participate.

I was selected for CL2019 and that was really the greatest experience I had. Participating in that event made me understand more things and made me be more active writing posts and hosting meet-ups.

How was your start in Connect?
