Anshuk began his journey as a Local Guide to explore rural areas that may get overlooked. When the pandemic hit, it became apparent how important this work is during a time of crisis. His Local Guides initiative, Connecting Rural India, became a catalyst for navigating emergency situations: "People living in rural areas will benefit from Google Maps in the same way that it helps us navigate in towns. It can be extremely beneficial to emergency responders, especially in the present situation," said Anshuk.

He created lists documenting where vaccination centers were located in three cities, which are updated weekly. Each list includes 10 to 12 vaccination clinics, including the number of doses that are available each day. Through Connecting Rural India, Anshuk has also added 228 rural roads to Google Maps.

A Local Guides Accessibility Champion, Anshuk hosted in-person meet-ups prior to the pandemic that focused on accessibility issues in India and how updating Google Maps can be a way to advocate for better access for all. One of the most clever ways he does this is updating public transit routes in the city with photos of wheelchair accessible train cars, for example.
