Sumaiya cares deeply about others and has made a positive impact in her community, both online and off, this year. "Through my reviews and photos, people can learn more about a place or a business and I can encourage them to go there," she said. "Together with other Local Guides, I can do something positive for my community. That's why I'm proud to be a Local Guide. Local Guides are like my family!"

Like many others, Sumaiya has felt the impact of COVID-19, but she hasn't let it stop her from participating in charitable activities and initiatives she cares about. "I am working for women's empowerment, especially for underprivileged women in Bangladesh. During this COVID-19 pandemic, I have initiated a project named TRIKONOMITI—'Sanitary Napkins at Doorsteps,'" she told us. "COVID-19 is affecting not only food and the economy, but every aspect of our lives. In this situation, it has become difficult for many girls and women, especially underprivileged girls and young women in rural areas, to buy sanitary napkins."

Sumaiya is dedicated to making a difference through her country-wide mapping initiative, Bangladesh Challenge, as well. Through this effort, she encourages people in Bangladesh to add emergency locations (such as pharmacies, hospitals and clinics) to the Map.
