Congrats @YogsatvaYoga
The points I got that were considered extra by the computer were not for my reviews or photos of the place and food but for answering questions.
Only 1 point is given for a question even if you get asked the same question over and over again.
That is excellent news!

Over the past day or so my points total has gone down by several hundred for no apparent reason. The number of contributions made by category (e.g. reviews, photos, edits etc.) appears to be exactly the same as before so can anyone please explain why this has happened or how I can find out? It can’t be the case that points were being deducted for edits which were being reviewed but then not applied as for some time the points for these haven’t been added on when the edit was made (which if I remember correctly used to be the case).
I’m moving your post to the Decrement of points in Google Maps thread, to keep all the information regarding this issue in one place.
Please answer the following questions that I asked the other Local Guides who reached out with same issue:
When did you first notice your points decreasing? Is this happening on every device–mobile and desktop? If you’re using desktop, have you tried using a different browser, as well as deleting cache and cookies?
Also, have you tried update the Google Maps app on your phone? Try logging out and in your Google account on both mobile and desktop.
Have you noticed if there’s also a decrease in the number of your reviews, photos and/or edits which may lead to points decreasing?
Thank you.
Hi @ErmesT .
Thanks for moving my post to the correct discussion. The points disappeared within the past 24-48 hours. As I said in my original post, the number of contributions made by category doesnʼt appear to have changed at all and in any case two to three hundred points is quite a lot to lose. Iʼve done everything except log in and log out (which I can’t on my phone without losing data associated with my account).
Salut @DeniGu
hi local guides
I have a huge problem so I do not look at my points I always contribute to the surprise I get emails telling me that my level is going up to such level and I’m really happy with this way I work
Thank you @ErmesT
I like looking at my points though. Makes me think, ‘I’m … to the next Level!’
One thing or two things’ certain, reviewing places and checking facts on the ‘To do’ list, a gradual process.
Colleen
Hi @YogsatvaYoga @Kol-Colleen_2018 @Gloire_Congo @EdwinOfNorthumbria
The issue is resolved now, you can check your points.
No further decrement.
Inform me after checking your points may be it’s due to a type of bug.
Hi @helga19 the problem is resolved now and no more decrement exist in contributions.
You can check from your side and inform me as soon as possible.
Are you able to detect the issue ?
Hi @DeniGu thanks for reply.
The problem is fixed now and i inform to some local guides to verify.
Hi brother @Raphael-Mahumane
The issue is rectified now, you can verify from your side.
And if still decrement then write here.
HI @IshantHP_ig I had the same issue the other day with points drastically dropping!!
Have you been checking facts and info on Google Maps? Questions asked again only counts as 1 point which the automatic points system picks up on later.
Try deleting cache and cookies on your phone and desktop as well as update Google Maps.
Restarting your phone and desktop are the next steps forward. Hope these suggestions give you some ideas!
The best of luck!
Colleen
Hi @JRob-Zetelumen many Congrats on (nearly) reaching Level 10!
If you’ve been checking facts and info recently answering questions twice or more only counts for 1 point.
The other suggestions are to update the Google Maps app on your phone and desktop; clear cache and cookies on both as well and restart to see if the points decrease further or increase.
As suggested by @saif your reviews and photos may have been reduced as well.
Hope these suggestions give you some ideas to look at.
Colleen
Hi @IshantHP_ig I know why my points decreased.
I had answered a few facts twice and some questions more than twice. 1 point is only given for any facts or questions answered and even if asked twice or more!
Colleen
Hi @Kol-Colleen_2018 yes, I had those questions which I answered more than twice sometimes, that might be the reason may be.
Yeah because if your photos and reviews haven’t gone down in numbers, that is the likely cause the points went up!
The issue has been escalated and is being investigated by the team @Koby and @HumbertG
Do you think that generally you have answered questions about a place once or more than once?
Do you think you’ve used “Not sure” or “skip” particularly often?
Regards Paul
Hi @HumbertG
Other Local Guides reached out with the same issue, so I’m going to merge your post with the already existing thread Decrement of points in Google Maps.
To help us investigate further, please answer the following questions:
When did you first notice your points decreasing? Is this happening on every device–mobile and desktop? If you’re using desktop, have you tried using a different browser, as well as deleting cache and cookies?
Also, have you tried update the Google Maps app on your phone? Try logging out and in your Google account on both mobile and desktop.
Have you noticed if there’s also a decrease in the number of your reviews, photos and/or edits which may lead to points decreasing?
Thank you!
Hi everyone,
Thank you very much for your detailed replies! I just want to confirm what @PaulPavlinovich said, that our team is currently looking into this issue.
We’ll let you know when we have an update.
