This post is where you raise any questions or wish to comment about any one of the specific star photos in the Local Guides 2024 Album of Star Photos or star photos generally. Please do not add them in comments in the album post itself or in last year’s Star Photos Discussion post. Any such comments added there will be moved to this dedicated 2024 star photos discussion post.
You can see that in last year’s Star Photos Discussion post there were some 438 messages across some 71 Connect pages!! It is precisely for this reason that separating questions and general discussion on star photos from the album post should provide a much better and more enjoyable user experience when viewing the star photos in the album, especially on mobile devices. To add to this, if you are commenting on a specific Local Guide’s star photo in the album, then you should also add a link to that star.
Update Jan 29: To see examples of how referring back to a specific Local Guide’s star photo in the album should be done, see the comments about @PrasadVR 's star photohere and that of @EfiKurniyawatihere. Adding links to the subject star photos helps the reader follow your comments.
Updated Jan 30:
(a) Because posts once submitted on Connect cannot be deleted, if you ever believe that a post you’ve added to the Star Photo Album post needs to be deleted then rather than adding a lame comment like “this comment has been moved to the discussion post”, then let me or one of the Connect Moderators know and it will be moved for you. I’m sure that you’ll agree that we all would much rather see this discussion post rather than the album post itself looking a bit messy.
(b) For the same reason and as clearly following the principle mentioned in the second paragraph above, I’m not a fan of the practice of reserving your place in the album post by simply adding a one liner like “I will upload my STAR photo here” or “I’m reserving this place for my star photo” and in the process kill the look and feel of, and the user experience that we want to achieve in the album post. If you’re not ready to add your star then please refrain from adding these lame comments in the album post. These will be moved to the discussion post.
Hello @EfiKurniyawati and well done on posting your star photo in the hot-off-the-press 2024 Star Photos Album. You should change your description’s heading Lippo Plaza at Gondokusuman, Yogyakarta**, Indonesia** so that it links to your star photo on Maps. There are a number of other formatting changes that you could make and on this I suggest you read again Section 3 regarding the preferred formatting criteria. detailed in the Album post.
@AdamGT I’m trying to update the URL to my Star Photo in the Top100 system, but the link seems to be fixed on the 2023 album. After I submitted the new view count and screenshot upload date, it seemed to let me then update the URL (on the “Caption” screen of T100), but even that did not accept the change to my 2024 Album link. Any tips?
Thanks @JustJake and @PrasadVR for letting us all know about this issue. I will check it out. For now, add your star to the star photo album with even a temporary link and we can update it later.
Thanks @Theatreperson , yes this problem was reported by @JustJake and @PrasadVR see their comments and my reply immediately above. The issue has been cleared now please test and let me know.
Are you trying to scare we participants away from the leaderboards? Despite your words to the contrary, the form is still not accepting our new URLs as seen in the error message shown below:
I have no clue why your input validation is blocking my entry.
Please don’t make pedantic formalistic requirements that take the fun out of participating.
Are you checking if we formatted the caption “correctly”? In that case, I have to inform you that the caption is only presented AFTER we have submitted this form. Or could it be that you don’t pull the edited posts from Connect but only recheck from the cache that does not have our latest version?
And note that the pop-up text blocks the view of the explanation shown under it.
Morten
UPDATE
After reloading the star photo data entry page and starting over, it was possible to save my data. So the issue is likely:
“You don’t pull the edited posts from Connect but only recheck from the cache that does not have our latest version?”
So I too was having problems with the link in the top 100, but I was forgetting to use the Permalink found in the 3 blue dots at the bottom, remember the Permalink is linked only to your star photo.
