I have read some articles and it mentioned the “Taiyou no Tamago”, known as “Egg of the Sun” from Miyazaki Prefecture in Kyushu (Japan) is the most expensive mango in the world. It costs about 70$ per fruit of 700g weight. It is 15 times taste more delicious than other types of mangos.
Some cases, at the first auction of the season, a pair of those mangos can cost about 3,000$, crazy right? The reason for its worth because it needs so much care and technique to grow it as it is very complicated.
I am not sure if this fruit I show you here is the same kind of above mango. In Cambodia, we call it Red Mango or "Svay Kraham Chakrapotr", a variety from Australia (Irwin Yang[Mangifera indica]) or from Taiwan known as Aiwen Yang Mango. It is exported mango so it the most expensive from Cambodia, but I have never tasted them. I walked around my resident this morning with my sister and when I saw this mango, I took a photo. I heard my friend said they also have it at home and tastes very good when ripen. I had other articles about Cambodian mangohere. I cannot wait to eat it but it is very rare that I don’t see anywhere else.
@Sophia_Cambodia I’ve never seen this color of mango. It looks delicious though and I would love to have a taste of it. Unfortunately, here, we don’t grow mangoes, it’s too cold.
I see dear @Melissa_Langlois we are lucky to be able to grow various species as we are humid and wet. I just haven’t eaten it before. I heard some species are from Taiwan but if this is the Eggs of the Sun, this should be from Japan.
When I was in New Zealand, I bought a very big yellow mango imported from Australia but it doesn’t taste good at all. I think you have to come all the way to Asia to taste great mango @Melissa_Langlois We have various types and this is its season. I shared earlier about Mangoes in Cambodia in another post.
Thank you, mine too @AbdullahAM I love mango so much, mango jam, mango pudding, mango smoothie, mango ice cream and ripe mango.
All of them! This is the first time I saw this big red mango. It is grown in the resident where I am living. I hope to get the seed for planting. My dad love to plant exotic fruits.
Wow ! So expensive, hard to believe, in our country very high quality magoes per kg cost aprox $3 to $4, but imported some mangoes maximum price is $10 ,
In Bangladesh also we have many kinds of Mangoes, Red, yellow, even green - red, green- yellow, !
Isee similar mangos here but very rare! Your showing Japanese Red mangoes I didn’t see yet. Obviously it will be tasty too! And the price of your showing mangoes seems to be so expensive!, Ib bangladesh price is so cheaper than that , Here best quality mangoes price maximum tk. 250~300. ( approx $ 4).
In bangkok I bought mangoes several times at my some previous visits. but I never bought Mangoes per kilo more than 200 bath ( approx $5 or $6), Even I bought mangoes from India, Indonesia , Malaysia , singapore also but not so expensive! So I Think Your showing mangoes will be very special indeed
Thanks a lot for tagging me and sharing so nice post of mangoes! I really love to read your post!
This is the first time I have seen this kind of Mango @Sophia_Cambodia . Thanks for sharing this information here. Feel like that we should taste this fruit.
Interesting fruit @Sophia_Cambodia . It looks big but I can’t tell from the photo how big it really is perhaps you should have your hand holding one. I would love to knw the taste but from what you said it might be too expensive for me so I will never know the tastes Oh I agree with @Austinelewex , it would be great to open one so we can see what it looks like inside.
I am knowing about this mango for the first time and it’s indeed very expensive. Here we have different varieties of Mangoes but per kg most mangoes are reasonable and taste great. There could be some demand in the early season. This is interesting to know. Thanks for sharing.
